after a long period of "no-modelling" I really needed to sit and watch trains go by, to get my interest/ inspiration going again . My Girlfriend lives 10 mins from the Humber Bridge so after some dog walking sessions along the VERY muddy riverbanks i became interested in the numerous sites, mainly dissused of various tileries/brickworks and the associated small works sites. after scrambling about with camera here is my very compact take on one such allbeit imaginary site... all is very temporary at the moment being just hot-glue and thin ply .... trying to get a "feel" for the industry & proportions...would welcome anyones thoughts/input??...does it look feasible?? ( not that reality should ever creep into here..of course ) ...I'll let the picccies do the talking..all comments welcome.....
enjoy... and i've got a video to post up later too!!!! (as if you hadnt suffered enough already hahahahaha...)

Hi Charlie - you seem to be off to a great start! The buildings look to be big enough to fit as a brickworks, and dwarf the locos and stock nicely. How about walling off the other end - only by 3-4" or so - so that the trains have somewhere to go to and from? Maybe even put a traverser behind the wall on the short straight so you can change trains??
What is the radius of the curve around the building? I guess if the critter can get round it, it's big enough!
I look forward to seeing this develop. _________________ Bill

I agree with Bill Charlie, looking fine but surely needs some form of fiddle around back of building. _________________ So little time, so many ideas!!!!! GerryB.

Bill, Gerry, thanks for the input, yes there will be a fence/wall etc.. to "seperate" then layout front/back.
to both of you....no fiddle this time as i want this to sit on a table in the room so am gonna "scenic" both sides of the layout, i have the Sunshine orange Co.. if i wanna do some shunting/fiddling hahahahaha...
anyways as promised (or is that threatened......) here is the video of the layouts first run today...!!! I can watch trains go round-and-round....SUCCESS!!!!!
Enjoy,

I really like the height of that chimney, its going to look great with the bricks on it.
And I'm impressed, running two trains at once
Have to agree with the others about a traverser or small wagon turntable at the end of that long siding. _________________ Glen Anthony.

Agree you are off to a great start Charlie I am going to be a bit contrary and say; that I think that the siding might be better on the outside of the loop and terminate along the edge of the river with a jetty or loading dock to the water, the loop can go into the building on one side and come out the other .
Materials into the Brick/tile/clay works from the river then goods out to the river to waiting barges. The barges dont need to be there but implied by the jetty/dock crane whatever.
Just my nickles worth. _________________ Regards Michael

Like it Charlie, minimal track and lots of mud, puddles and reeds captures the feel of the Humber tilleries. Being able to play with a second train on the inner siding, just shuttling back and forth while enjoying the one on the loop passing through the landscape, yup, that works for me _________________ Steve Bennett

alright here's your company name - using "roundy-round" and "no name yet" as something to work from cross referenced with background art on the wall there -

Thanks Forrest, for the name fits exactly what i was looking for
Now to be really cheeky..as i'm useless on computer graphics etc.... would someone please like to make a wall-sign for the works that i could print out?? Pretty please..with a cherry on top????
Michael, thanks for the input all taken on board but,i did try a version with the siding "outside" the oval but it cut the oval's distance down too much, besides the sloping bank is really the sides of a "clay-pit" rather than the actual banks of the Humber,
Steve, as regards two engines at once... yes for the first time i can take advantage of my DCC system

My pleasure Charlie
You know you start talking layouts around here and the Members of the Order of The Honourable Self-Volunteering Gnatterbox Layout Design Committee will start popping out of the woodwork.
That's the kind of stuff what makes this place great _________________ Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments, and they wander off through equation after equation, and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality. -- Nikola Tesla, Modern Mechanics and Inventions, July, 1934 |

Hi Charlie - a nice bit of video, and very smooth-running trains. That small radius curve works perfectly, too! I like the title, but I fear I don't have the skills to design you a sign, but I'm sure there will be someone on the Forum who will produce you a stunner. _________________ Bill
