Many thanks for the kind comments, chaps. Progress continues to be made - very slowly.

The grills are now fixed in place, and a back sheet is on the way - I just need to make the brake handle in the unusual Diema form.

A view into the engine compartment - lumps, oily, Diemas for the use of Rolling Eyes

A cruelly-enlarged shot of the grills - but at least you can see the engine behind Very Happy

You can also see the catches to keep the grills closed - more fiddly little bits of plasticard Rolling Eyes

Fresh out of the paintshop today, with little of the normal trauma - apart, that is, from dropping the still-wet engine compartment onto the garage floor - don't ask Mad

A side view. The colour scheme is influenced by the photos of the real thing being rebuilt http://www.zonetopic.com/17455022792-diema-dl8.

Front view - if you look carefully you can see the engine behind the grill!

From the rear showing the engine in the depths, and daylight visible through the grill.

Painting courtesy of Railmatch spray cans - Post Office Red and Freightliner Green.

The bits are just resting together at the moment, pending a little work on weathering and touch-ups. I can't bring myself to do much weathering - well, all right, just a little Rolling Eyes

Very nice looking work Bill.

but it's very disorientating, making models in 2 scales simultaneously

That is interesting I have the same disease Wink

Hey Bilco

Can you tell me which grills you used for this loco? I need one to replace a white metal moulding and I'm looking at A1 Models atm. I need one in 7mm scale but hopefully any supplier will make different size options.

Looking good btw, any more progress?

Cheers!

Hi Christian,

Yes, the grill material is from A1 Models - ref AS 04. It comes in an oblong piece about 18 cm x 6.5 cm. I got it at the 7mm AGM at Burton in May. They have some grill material with circular holes as well, which might be useful one day!

I'm fiddling with little details at the moment, on the Diema-like and the 7mm Diema, trying to get psyched up to do some weathering. Maybe tomorrow Rolling Eyes

Well, the 7mm Diema kit build is finished, having given it a quick spray of DullCote today. It's had some light weathering overall, with some spots given a bit more to hide the dodgy areas Embarassed

Front view - doesn't look too bad from this angle.

From the side and, allowing for parallax, reasonable. Some heavier rust at the bottom of the cabin where there was some poor fitting. The seam visible is cast into the side, and not really worrying until the weathering showed it up!

The pics are taken with my old digital camera, as the new(er) one stopped working yesterday. I have a nice shiny new one on order from Amazon Shocked

Right - it's time to call this little project finished - it's been hanging around since May Rolling Eyes

Very Gnice work Bill. The details look superb. The engine through the mesh gives the green loco real depth. It looks even better on the layout, at work with a skip.
